Bypass Sites
The Ottawa River is one of the most impressive river networks in North America. The dam bypass system makes it possible to sail from Montréal to the far north of Lake Temiscamingue and to the Great Lakes. The three bypass sites in the Pontiac are:
- Portage-du-Fort - Bryson
- Chapeau - Desjardinsville
- Rapides-des-Joachims
Trailering Services
The Waterway uses a unique by-pass system with state-of-the art hydraulic trailers and trucks that can handle boats up to 12,000 lbs and 30 feet long. The system is efficient and the traveling time varies from 20 minutes to 50 minutes.
Unfortunately, due to clearance and trailer design, houseboats or sailboats not equipped with retractable keels and quick-stepping masts cannot be accommodated.
Types of boat permitted:
- Cruisers up to 30 – 32 feet in length
- Pontoon boats up to 28 feet
- Fishing boats, PWC
- Sailboats with retractable masts and keels
- Houseboats are excluded
- Weight not to exceed 12,000 lbs
In the MRC Pontiac, trailering servic is now provided by the private sector. For fast service, we highly recommend that you reserve your lift and all other boat transport services 24 hours in advance.
