TransporAction Pontiac (TAP)

TransporAction Pontiac (TAP) is a mass and parallel transportation service. It enables the Pontiac population, which is spread across an immense area, to travel and access particularly social and health services, but also those for leisure and education. TAP can also arrange transportation during certain special events in the regional county municipality (MRC). The event organizing committee has only to contact TAP for information on the terms and conditions.

The general objectives are:

  • to counter rural isolation
  • to provide access to a certain level of social profitability for mass and parallel transportation
  • to pool existing material, human and financial resources to transport clients of various Pontiac-based organizations
  • facilitate participation in community activities and access to essential services
  • encourage maintaining individuals in their home environment

The number of public transportation users has grown from 60, in 2004, to 1421 in 2010, and the number of trips has increased from 3,246 in 2005 to 24,413 in 2010. With respect to paratransit, TAP went from 104 users in 2004 to 368 in 2010 and from 5,516 trips in 2005 to 15,698 in 2010. Today, the number of kilometres travelled annually is close to 391,696 for public transportation and 340,338 for paratransit. This demonstrates the importance of TransporAction. Approximately forty volunteer guides enable TAP to provide this essential, quality service.

TAP is also a leader in the Outaouais region; with the Conférence régionale des élus de l'Outaouais [regional conference of elected officials in the Outaouais region] (CREO) and as a member of the Regroupement des transports collectifs en Outaouais [Outaouais region public transportation association] (RTCO), TAP has developed regional planning for innovation by implementing a standard public transportation network across the region that includes all the MRCs in the Outaouais. This demonstrates its interest in a playing a role in a more global strategy.
