Dear residents of the Pontiac,
Despite the MRC offices being closed due to COVID-19, rest assured that our MRC staff is actively working on many important initiatives.
In the works is a proposal for high speed internet, which is a top priority for the MRC Pontiac’s revitalization and attractivity for new residents and businesses alike.
Our economic development team is working diligently with the investment committee and the SADC to ensure the survival of as many local businesses as possible. Any business in need of financial assistance can contact our agents or visit the MRC website to apply for emergency funding of up to $ 50,000.
Concerning potential forestry operations, a lot of work has been accomplished on the MRC Fibre Pontiac project and we hope to hear more on whether it will move forward this summer. I’ve also been working closely with the Mansfield-et-Pontefract Mayor and Council and property owner Bruno St-Cyr in the hope of opening Energie Davidson as a cogeneration facility and white pine saw mill. In addition, I’m active on the Forestry Crisis Committee for the Outaouais and the FQM Forestry Committee, and we are focusing a lot on forestry work for this year.
Another exciting initiative is the Energy from Waste proposal, in which the MRC Pontiac is a willing host and has been a leader in the Outaouais and Ottawa Valley in promoting an Energy from Waste facility. This will save one million dollars out of our budget by not transporting our garbage to Lachute, Quebec. It will also create 50 local jobs.
We need to consult with you for Vision 2030 and plan to do so when we are no longer required to practice social distancing. You will play an integral role in planning our vision for the next 10 years.
In light of the COVID-19 crisis, we are all thinking of doing things differently in order to plan for the future. Many of us are focusing on shopping local, supporting local businesses and reducing our travel. When it comes to food, I recommend planting a vegetable garden if you can. Many people planted Victory Gardens after WWI and II, because planting a garden can be very beneficial for your wallet, your food supply, and your mental health!
Keep safe, Together Pontiac!
