MRC Pontiac to Invest in the Outaouais Tourist Route

The MRC Pontiac will invest $ 10,000 per year for five years in the promotion of the first tourist route in the Outaouais, “Les Chemins d’eau”. (Water Way)

At present, Quebec has 16 tourist routes with official signage in 9 administrative regions. The majority of them are continuous routes that lead visitors to targeted attractions. Six attractions on MRC Pontiac territory, among them two that will be interactive, will be part of the route map.

The “tourist route” is an interesting formula for economic development in Quebec. A survey of tourists revealed that, for nearly one in three, the visit of a tourist route is the main reason for the trip; and, visitors of a tourist route stay 5.6 nights, which is significantly higher than the average 3.4 nights for Quebec. In addition, 75% of respondents could spontaneously name at least one official tourist route and the satisfaction rating with the overall experience is 97%! (Source: Tourisme Outaouais)

The route is scheduled to open for summer 2017 tourist season.
