Diversification, innovation, transformation and succession are major issues of the agricultural industry in Pontiac, though it has proved innovative since 2009 with the creation of the hops industry and experimental rice cultivation. In fact, we now see an increasing number of farms diversifying production.
AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD
In 2020, the agriculture and agri-food sector will be based on an innovative range of specialty products, sealing its position as a key economic player in the Pontiac. The Pontiac will be known for its dynamism in agriculture, and for its value-added products, thereby generating renewed interest in farming among youth.
Strategy 1: Support secondary and tertiary processing as well as short distribution channels;
Strategy 2: Encourage agricultural diversification and technical/economic efficiency;
Strategy 3: Promote and facilitate access to agriculture (establishment of farms and farm transfers).
