Temporary fluctuations in the water level on the Rivière des Outaouais
Hydro-Québec to install buoy lines
Gatineau, June 16, 2020 – Hydro-Québec will install buoy lines (also referred to as booms) on the Rivière des Outaouais to ensure the public is aware of danger zones near Bryson generating station and Rocher-Fendu dam.
In order to carry out the work and ensure worker safety, the company will lower the water level before installing the buoys and raise it once the work has been completed. Nearby residents and users of the Rivière des Outaouais may therefore notice fluctuations in the water level over the next two weeks. The level will nevertheless remain within normal operating limits and the activities of river users are not expected to be disrupted.
Hydro-Québec would like to specify that the installation and location of this protective structure have been approved by Transport Canada and comply with all environmental regulations.
“It is dangerous to engage in recreational activities on bodies of water near hydroelectric generating stations. We ask everyone to pay attention to the signs and the protective structure, which have been installed for their safety,” stated Alain Paquette, Advisor – Community Relations at Hydro-Québec.
Anyone wishing to report a danger to the public can call Hydro-Québec at 1 877 816-1212 at any time.
