Fire Safety

SÉCURITÉ - Incendie et police

On March 1st, 2002, the MRC Pontiac received notice from the Ministry of Public Security mandating the MRC to develop and implement a fire safety cover plan for its territory. The cover plan is a fire risk management and decision-making tool for municipal elected officials. For people responsible for emergency operations, it is also a planning tool.

The Pontiac Regional Council of Elected Representatives realized its desire to meet the responsibilities that were given by the provincial government by hiring:

  • A public security coordinator, responsible for the development and implementation of the fire safety cover plan; and,
  • A fire prevention technician, responsible for the development of fire prevention programs, and managing fire risks by:
    • Preparing fire prevention measures to reduce the likelihood of fires; and,
    • Planning all fire response elements to minimize the consequences of a fire, and protect the public.

With the help of the 18 municipalities and their respective fire departments, the public security coordinator and fire prevention technician work to keep citizens safe.

For additional information, please contact our Fire and Public Safety Coordinator.
