Launch of a petition concerning Bill 96 by the Regional Council of Mayors of the MRC Pontiac

Litchfield, September 14, 2021 – Launch of a petition concerning Bill 96 by the Regional Council of Mayors of the MRC Pontiac

At its August sitting, the Council of Mayors unanimously adopted a resolution requesting that a petition concerning Bill 96 be circulated among the Pontiac population. The petition reads as follows:

Considering that the Council of Mayors of the MRC Pontiac has adopted resolution C.M. 2021-06-14 and that the said resolution is attached hereto to form an integral part hereof;
We, the undersigned, request that the government of Québec:
Remove from Bill 96 all sections that could have a negative impact on English-speaking citizens and bilingual communities and that could affect negatively services to English speaking Quebecers;
Ensure that students be able to study in the language of their choice as part of their post-secondary education;
Ensure that the provisions of Bill 96 do not create an administrative burden for small businesses.

In order to facilitate the collection of signatures, the petition has been made available throughout the region, notably at the office of the MRC Pontiac, various local municipal offices, and selected businesses. For anyone wishing to obtain a copy of the petition to collect signatures, they are invited to get in touch with the MRC’s communications department by email (c.jones@mrcpontiac.qc.ca) or by phone 819-648-5689 ext. 127. The deadline for collecting signatures is Friday, Oct. 15th at 4 p.m.

All the sheets collected will be amalgamated and the petition will be forwarded to the MNA for Pontiac, Mr. André Fortin, to be tabled at the National Assembly.
