Forest Management

The Pontiac MRC forestry department is a dynamic and experienced team with a wide ranging mandate and is involved in most of the Pontiac MRC’s forestry files. This requires ongoing cooperation with citizens, elected officials and several other partners. This service is therefore a primary meeting place for all individuals connected to the forestry sector. Here is an overview of the files in which the forest service is involved.

Public forests

  • Forest crisis
  • Consolidation of the forest industry
  • Single officer project
  • Corporation for permanent maintenance of public fire roads
  • Integrated resource management table / local issue table
  • Public consultations on forest management plans submitted by individuals awarded timber supply and forest management agreements (TSFMA)

Shared Municipal Territory (TPI)*

* Applies only to the TPI’s residual forests, or 9,441 hectares (less than 5%) of the total TPI area, most of which is concentrated in the Otter Lake and Alleyn-et-Cawood areas.

  • Planning forest management projects on TPI, management and follow-up of harvest operations
  • Contracts for forest harvesting, timber marking, and fire road construction
  • Implementation of TPI forest certification
  • Management of cottage and commercial leases
  • Management of land files (naked possession, unlawful occupation, etc.)
  • Daily management of public requests and concerns regarding TPI
  • Management of public consultations
  • Identification of property lines with landowners adjacent to TPI
  • Multi-resource advisory committee
  • Regional and provincial TPI committee
  • Other management projects
